Mark, ( or S.urrogate O.ther S.ource )

Curious to know your resources for the music tracks under your narrative.

I have a small collection from music-for-video but like the timing of highs and lows & tempo in many of yours.

What collections do you use?

Thanks!

The FPM site is a great source for anyone who does record their own original tracks.

Audio Track Suggestions...? Empty re: FPM

Thanks Dave,

I have been to the FPM site, however their content is only free for "home, private, personal, non commercial use" and requires a license for things such as. "...Multimedia, Podcast and Web use...". I can only assume that "web use" also includes things such as tutorial on YT.

The Terms & Rate Cards are a bit confusing, so for clarification I wrote to them; and according to FPM's Mark Brinker a license would be required for a how-to tutorial or promo video that is placed on the web. He assures me that FPM makes, "...every effort to work with our clients and satisfy their needs within their budgets.". So, it would appear my assumption is correct, but I plan to prod him a bit more to find out more.

I will further consult with him about using their content and post anything useful in a future post.

Many times I produce my own by sampling the extensive community-driven loops & tracks at www.looperman.com. Great community with lots of talent.

BTW: This Post is open to suggestions from everyone...if you have a good site for bg tracks (with uncomplicated terms) please throw them into the ring.

Audio Track Suggestions...? Empty FPM official response

Post  AMPwerx Fri Feb 20, 2009 1:18 am

FYI...

I've heard back from FreePlayMusic regarding the use of their music data base and how it can be used freely or the requirements for a license.

Here are the 'coles notes' of the response from Mark Brinker of FPM(FreePlayMusic.com):

Family Slideshows - If you are using the music for your own home, personal, private, non-commercial projects, you would fall under the "free" terms of use and may use the music without securing a license or paying a fee. However, if you are producing the slideshows for others, this would not be considered personal use and a paid non-broadcast multimedia license (which covers any live presentation or performance) will be needed.

Personal YouTube videos - Web use is considered a form of broadcast and requires a paid license to be secured with us. Our standard rates for one year of personal web video use are $25, per music title, for each 4 minutes of use, per URL. The standard rate for one year of use by a business or organization is $100, per music title, for each 4 minutes of use, per URL.

Promo Video - You would need to secure 3 types of usage rights for a license. A paid license would need to be secured for Non-Broadcast Multimedia use (covering the live presentation of the video), Web Video use (if the video will be posted on the web), and Audio distribution (granting permission for the video to be distributed via the USB drives/CD's).
By way of example, using 1 Freeplay track in a video that would be shown nationally at live events and posted on 1 website for a year, as well as distributed on less than 100 USB drives/CD's, would cost $400.

Just thought I'd share, (for clarity if you've been to their terms pages) just in case anyone may be using the tracks.

Any suggestions for a good -no strings attached- site for half decent musical bottom tracks?

-A
