Hey Mark, I am a big fan and "you tube" subscriber of yours and your videos inspired me to start making videos on you tube.
I am a musican and I write songs, and I would love to film footage to go with my songs.
I want to film music videos in front of a green screen.

I want to get a green screen.
I am planning on putting it in my bedroom for now.
I understand from your videos I would need to stand 6 feet in front of the screen, and in my current room I could only stand 3 feet away with the camera at a good distance in front filming me. I know this will create shadows, but is there a way around it to get a nice picture like you always get on your videos.

I really like the color and quality in your videos, very profesional.
I really want the same results.
I respect your opinions.
Given that I have a small room right now to work in (hopefully upgrading to a bigger room in a few months)
I want to record video in front of a green screen, what do you reccomend I should get for lighting, green screen, programs Etc.
I currently have an HD Cannon Mini Dv camera right now.
I have access to final cut pro and Imovie 08 if needed.

I want professional equipment for a good price, I intend to pursue video production.
Thanks in advance.
Mike.

Hi Mikey, welcome to the forums.

Standing close the screen may cause shadows as you are aware of however I do the same thing. The way to keep shadows down is to simply use a lot of lights which you may want to dim down in brightness a little. I personally use two halogen single worklights and three incandescent to light the subject. I did a video showing the basics of lighting as well as one showing how a good camera compared to a cheap camera for chroma key work. You may want to check those out on my YouTube page.

I suggest you use FCP or buy another Non-Linear Editor such as Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas.
As for a camera, yours may be fine, try it out. Most of the paid for editors will do a good job at keying out. I am uploading a video to youtube later to show how to key with Premiere CS3. You will see it does a great job.

I find that Canon video cameras usually put out a great image. You should be fine with your current camera.

In a small room, the worklights may be a little too bright unless you can shine them at white walls or something. A good 3 piece softbox set would be ideal IMO but they are a little large and may get in your way until you move into a larger room.

Hey thanks for the response I greatly appreciate it.
I really like your videos, great work man.
I like the music videos you made and I am trying to create something similar.

If Mark can also chime in, what light kit and green screen kit do you recommend me to start with so I can start filming some quality green screen material.

Thanks again.

Try a direct email to him if you already tried a PM. I have not seen him around much, I would assume he is very busy with something...probably flooded with emails about subscribers and such for his youtube contest...

I'll PM you his email

another reason why everyone recommend being a distance away from the chroma key sheet is so that it is slightly out of focus which will make it easier to key out later.
