Intro Post
First off let me say I am so glad I found this site.
I feel like a very old man here, with most of the members more than half my age (45).
My name is David and I retired from Microsoft in Sept. 2003.
2004 - I attended the Colorado Film School in Denver until 2007. I moved with my wife to Philadelphia that same year. She is a traveling Nurse. She took up roots here in Philly because she fell in love with the Childrens Hospital.
My film studies where in the Director/Writer path, and was able to learn from Ric Waite, a DP of over 120 major Hollywood films like 48 hours and Red Dawn.
I have no real contacts here in Philadelphia, most of the actors I have used in the past live in Denver. My scripts are starting to pile-up and I need to start shooting again.
One of the best tools, that many film makers fail to use, is other film makers. I particapted, while in Denver, with a film club called GROUP 101. The monthy screenings where priceless. Having the ablity to show your work to a dozen other film makers and get feed-back was huge in my development. I have not located that type of group yet here in Philly, but I am still looking. Until then, I think this message board might fill in the gap just fine.
I am currently reading most of the posts, and so far, I am finding a lot of helpful information.
I shoot video everyday! Even if I do not have a project, I shoot video. My dogs running and playing both in and outside. I will drive around just looking for something to point a camera at. I have found that I learn 10x more from mistakes, so this unprepared video footage teaches me so much.
I write everyday in my journel.
I look forward to bouncing ideas and projects off you all.
Thanks for having me
David
