Well just about any video editing program, (NLE) will do keying however if you dont need to edit the footage something like CompositeLab Pro may be a good choice. It is software made to do green screen and so it can key out a little better than your standard editing program.

I personally use Adobe Premiere or Avid for all of my keying and think it does good enough for my use.

If you are on a budget I suggest just sticking with an editing software for now. Sony Vegas is a very common starting point for many people. I personally started on Premiere because I was learning it back in High School.

It really depends on your budget. I would go with Sony vegas movie studio if you can only spend around 100 dollars. The other good ones are Vegas pro 8, Avid media composer, (expensive!) Final cut pro, or Adobe premiere CS4. A free one that I have heard of but never used is Wax 2.0. Be careful of the free ones they can be crap

yea WMM can key but you need to get some codes and its not easy to do at all...

the higher end programs will ALWAYS do a better job.

Since this is an old post from Oct 2008, you may have already purchased the software. However I will still throw my 2 cents in for future ref.

Vegas Pro 8 at $500+ is best bang for the buck.

A good friend of mine uses Pinnacle Studio 12 ultra with some Boris FX add-ons. I help him edit some stuff over the holidays that had some chroma keying and it worked rather well.

AVID seems to be the industry standard, for the most part and Pinnacle is, in-a-way, AVID. I was suprised how a like the two are.

Everyone has an opion on what they like in features, but what I find important is how well footage is captured and well the product exports that footage.

What is the production value of your projects? Broadcast, DVD, Film Festival, Internet (Youtube), or just personal.

I agree with "Be careful of the free ones they can be crap" by Mark Apsolon But also beware if paying $1000+ for an overpowered/underused piece of software.

Just because you pay more for something doesnt insure you the best results. Editing is an art form, my guitar playing does not improve with the cost of the guitar. As a programmer for over 11 years, I can tell you I have created some of the best webpages (HTML) within Note Pad.

I have told first time users to get the most simple application they can get their hands on and exspand from there. Getting Premiere Pro or Vegas Pro 8 as your first edition suite is like learning to fly with a 747. Way to much to soon!

Sorry for being over-winded.
