I thought I would introduce myself Empty I thought I would introduce myself

I believe I was the first member to sign up to this board and I figured I would post a little info about myself here as I have yet to do that.

My name is David and I am currently 23 years old.
I am a TV Production major in college and currently learning Avid Xpress Pro 4.5.

I got interested in TV production back in high school where they installed a brand new TV Studio the last year I was there. They were using Adobe Premiere which was nice as it seemed like an easy program to learn.

I got out some of my dads old lights and his Hitachi Hi8 camera and started doing some Gear Reviews on all my music gear.

Well after a while I got bored with all of the production work and eventually got into electrical and started taking night classes at a vocational school to learn 120/240V electrical (common in homes.) Soon after I got some part time jobs while going to college classes at Brookdale and made some good money. Also around this time I started getting interested in audio recording. I was always fond of playing and listening to music but now I wanted to get my songs out to the rest of the world and so I used my hard earned money and got some instruments into my studio. I started with moving my keyboard downstairs and then build a custom electric drum set. After that I thought it would be nice to be able to make a full song and before I knew it, I had a guitar. Before I knew it, I was into recording and got some good equipment installed and started posting my songs on a new Myspace page.
After a while, I got tired of the whole electrical job. The amount of money I was making for all the work that was required wasn't nearly enough and I also found it hard to find a large company that would hire part time. I then decided to change my career direction as well as major in college and that's where I really got into doing production work.

A few months ago I decided to chance my Myspace page around a little bit and move from audio recording for fun into an Audio/Video studio. It was at that point where Sonic Orb Studios was born.

These days you can see all of my work on Youtube. I use my dads newer Sony MiniDV camera and Premiere CS3, (one I saved up for and got). I do a lot of instructional videos and great gear reviews on all of my gear. If anyone around the area has a piece of gear they want me to review they are welcome to bring it in and do a review with me.
I also hope major companies such as M-Audio or Roland...will see my videos and start sending me gear to review.

When I am not doing videos for Youtube I tend to do small jobs around the area. Most of the time it is transferring old home movies from VHS or Hi8 onto DVDs. It isn't a lot of fun but I get a little bit of income from it and without a job right now I will take any income I can get.

College is fun at times but can also be a lot of work. I am working to become certified to work on Avid which means a lot of classes to go though...but I enjoy the hands on type classes that deal with computers and high end gear.

I guess that's just about it...

Edit:
Well now I am done with most of my TV classes (for editing) and just filled out the paperwork to get my Avid certificate yesterday. Once I get that in in a few weeks I will officially be a certified Avid editor which means much better and easier to get jobs.

I registered for my next semester two days ago and am taking some classes to learn ProTools. The program is great and you can do a lot but the interface is the worst thing to figure out on my own...same with Avid as they are the same company.

Thanks for taking the time to read this
