Need a good free screen capture software

I've tried Snagit followed by ByperCam both Snagit gave me a poor quality and HyperCam just played back fast or choppy.

So, what is a good free screen capture software?

I am not concerned about it being able to record audio as I have another program which will do that for me.

I myself have got Fraps and Gamecam on my pc, but it seems like gamecam does the job the best.

Btw, which audio capture software do you use? I'm looking for a good one for ages now.

So I finally found one that works...
CamStudio

It's not the best in terms of smooth capture speed but it gives a nice image and is free.
I got it working on XP, Vista and Windows 7 without any problem.


I use Cakewalk Sonar 7 Producer for my audio work. It's a high end sequencer which not everyone may need. Have a look into Reaper. It's similar to the higher end ones but at a fraction of the price.

previously I said I was looking for a good PC oudio recorder for ages, but now I found out that the failliure is not due to the capture sorfware, but du my computer.

None of the PC audio recorders i've stambled upon only were able to record the input of my microphones, WHY???!!!

Please help me!!

You can get better quality video with Camstudio by installing K-lite codec pack and then in camstudio go to options > Video Options and set your "compressor" (codec) to ffdshow, inside that set the encoder to Uncompressed and then click ok. now set the first slider to 100% quality and move the slider at the bottom until you get a good frame rate like 25fps or 30 fps depending on what format your recording in.

If anyone is also interested, Camtasia is another good program I found. It records audio, a web cam, and your screen at the same time. You get a free 30 day trial but the program will cost you money in the end.

Try reinstalling your sound card drivers. Also be sure you have it properly setup in your sequencer and control panel.
