Pulling my hair out with a green screen GLITCH

Post  Dan Webster on Thu Jul 07, 2011 6:58 pm

Mark -o- Wise one,

Hey I just got into this Chromakey stuff and set up my mini light studio with Screen lights (front left/right sides) to get screen evenly lit in the background, have light on my person separate from the screen lighting. The video looks great until I put it into my PowerDirector 9 and filter out the chomakey background. Even though it appears to be filtering out all the green. when the processor outputs it, I still get green blotches in certain areas. I have played with the balancer for a bit to set the level but still no better results. I'm wondering if it is the lighting or maybe the software... Any Ideas, techniques or troubleshooting to try?

Flusterpucked in the head,

Dan Webster

Hey Dan, welcome to the forums!
Mark is quite busy most of the time but I'm usually here to answer most of the questions.

It sounds like you have the proper setup going and the hard part of filming and lighting is actually done. I've never tried PowerDirector 9 but the fact that it quotes to be "the world 1st 64-bit consumer video editing software" seems strange to me...
It sounds like the software is to blame here. Cheaper software is good for some things however usually you'll find flaws like this in them.
Try a trial version of Adobe Premiere, After Effects, or Sony Vegas and see if those programs key out any better. Personally, I love keying out in After Effects however the new Ultra Key plugin in Premiere CS5 does very nice keys.
