newbee needs help

Post  marcel on Tue Mar 30, 2010 3:27 pm

I have purchased the QL1000 softbox and I’m using these lights for my 3pt light on my subject. I’m using to 500watts hard lights to light my green screen. I'm using a JVC GY-DV300 digital camera and I have a teleprompter attached to the camera. The problem I’m having is my picture is really grainy. What can I do to fix this problem?

Was the image poor before the new lights were used? If so, it's the camera that's the problem, not the lighting
The only time I've seen grain/noise in the image was when there wasn't enough light being put on the set and the camera tries to bump up the exposure.

The JVC GY-DV300 is an older cam with smaller CCDs built in so it may have more noise even in proper lighting.
I know my old Sony DCR-HC32 would do this.

Hey Dave thanks for the prompt reply. No I didn't have that problem before, could the problem be caused due to the teleprompter?

I guess it could being that the one way glass is like looking though sun glasses and therefore the camera is boosting the gain to make up for the loss of light. Try taking it off and see if the issue goes away.
