Learning video production -- Don't Hate Me! Empty Learning video production -- Don't Hate Me!

In high school I worked in a tip top school TV studio, trained by an instructor that was fanatic about detail, precision and quality. I still cannot watch any TV or video that is not clear, high quality and without static, noise, lines or distortion. After college I had a choice, policeman or broadcasting, did the police thing, but always had a heart for news gathering, got in trouble many times for letting press through to crime scenes. Two worlds that should never meet, anyway, now retired and don't laugh, but I bought an old Sony DXC 325, all the buttons with a great picture. I love this camera, it is big and bold, and when you break this old girl out, people stop what they're doing and look, so cool! I want to learn this camera and then upgrade in a year! Not sure what all the buttons do yet, with no manual or help, just finding out what it can do. Now the real question?? To transfer analog to digital, bought a stupid Dazzle, now hate it, it will not allow Adobe Premier or Sony Vegas 9 to use it, now looking for a video capture card to transfer my Hi 8 to digital. What card can I get to transfer analog signal to digital to edit in Vegas 9. It's so much to catch up on! jabberjaw401@hotmail.com

Sometimes those old vintage cameras work really well however you still cant beat modern cameras with lower priced components and HD quality.
I've not had the chance to ever use a Sony DXC325 but looking it up on youtube seems to bring up lots of people rigging DC batteries up to them as the replacements are either hard to find or really expensive.

I also enjoy the large prosumer cameras because people relate large cameras to professional news rigs and it just adds a bit of joy to your day having everyone watch ya.
These days cameras are so small they are too hard to even hold steady. I enjoy my new canon Vixia HFS100 but I always feel like it's going to vanish as I close my hand around it LOL

To get the analog signal into your computer to edit in a digital world, you'll need a video capture card or USB interface. Most of these have the standard composite video connections on board and come with software to record it all.
Anything by Pinnacle or Hauppauge is good in my book. I myself use a Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP to capture analog sources. It works really well for my needs and I've yet to get a complaint from any customers.

I wish ya the best of luck with learning video production and if you have any questions, you are more than welcome to come back and post them here.
