A few of my videos

Post  SonicOrbStudios on Sat Oct 04, 2008 10:22 am

First let me thank Mark for getting an update out for his site. Great job!

I got interested in video production the last year of high school (2004) when they installed a brand new TV Studio. These days I am in college and plan on becoming an editor. It seems finding a job is the hardest part though.......

Anyways this is one video I did for a college project last semester. The only parts I filmed were the opening and voice overs. The interviews were done by another group member and he didn't set the audio up correctly so it is hard to understand. I tried to fix it up some but its still not too great.

(BTW, forgive me for leaving the 30s of bars and tone in there and black video, I could not re-edit at the last minute before exporting it from the school computer servers.)
Editing was done on Avid Xpress Pro 4.5 on a Dell with Pent. 4 processor...(School setup). I was just learned it at the time. I am not happy with the title tool and there's no templates for them...but it came out fair. Shot comp isn't great but I am learning advanced composition right now so my other videos will be better.

Edit, I wasn't sure weather to put this in the Youtube section or here...so move it if needed.

Multi-camera editing is too easy and is normally dont "live to tape". I actually have been editing some single cam shoots for school lately and can safely say its a much bigger challenge. You have to sync audio and then make sure the continuity is good as well.

For a single person production you can't beat a multi-camera setup. I wish I had the cash for a second camera though lol.

lol

open up a savers bank account that take maybe a £10 a month from your bank. It'll soon be overflowing.

what exactly do you mean by single cam shots?

Single cam shoots are a common form of production where only one camera is used and things are shot many times.

A simple interview, for example...
You would shoot the host asking all the questions with something like an over the shoulder shot and then switch around to the other side and re-shoot the production doing the same type over the shoulder shot.
Sometimes they will do a third take doing a two-shot to spice it up a little more.

If two cams were two shoot the over the shoulder shots at the same time you would see the cameras in the final product. This is a type of production I learned to do very early on on college and even high school. It's not something studios do often at all as they record "live to tape" but some productions like interviews and news casts will do it all the time.

IIRC, "The Office", (If you've seen that TV show) is a single camera production.

Premiere is more of a video program and so for all of my audio I use Sonar 7 Producer. I can do a LOT more with Sonar compared to Premiere and do it much quicker/easier. Sonar is high in price but I produce music as a hobby and so it was worth the money spent.
