I would like to take some videos for my website and submit a few to YouTube. How does the Canon GL1 work? I have one I used to use a few years back and have not attempted to use it since 2007. How well does this camera work for this and what advice would you have for a microphone for this camera.

Thanks!

Hi. I'm in the beginning stages of taking some of my test prep classes to the internet.

I've got a small room in my place that I'm setting up as a studio, and the idea is to upload videos to a YouTube channel, my website, and if things go well maybe look into a paid subscription service or DVDs down the road.

I'm very happy to have come across Mark's videos, and this production value is exactly what I'm aiming at. But to achieve that kind of picture quality, what camera do I need?

I know my cameras and all but when it comes to being limited to consumer models and buying at one store, (BestBuy) I am lost on what to get. I have heard the Canon HV20 is nice but it's around $800 at BB...normally $600 at other stores...

I used to own a Sony Handycam (DCR-HC32) but BestBuy just took it and said the repairs were going to be higher than the cost of the $500 camera and gave me store credit.

This is nice since the cam is already 5+ years old and never had an outstanding ...

Last weekend I shot water rocket launches with a high speed camera, capable of shooting up to 17,000 fps!

This was made possible by one of our sponsors for our world record attempt.

The camera shoots at a max. resolution of 1280x1024 @ >500fps, and >1000fps @ a res. of 1280x512 (like cinematic aspect).

These footage will I use in e.g. intros of our videos, and i might even make a saperate film for it.

Am I making a mistake or would this be good for me to get started. It falls more into my budget and seems to have majority of my requirements. The biggest con I have concern with is audio. This is easily solved with an external audio adaption. Tell me your thoughts and for those that know what they are talking about (not me) I would appreciate being pointed to a compatible external audio set up.. Also how do I know what tripod would work for me or if it would even hold the camera? Sorry really ...

Hey, since I thought my dream camcorder (the EX1) would be a little to expensive for me at this moment, I'm now saving up for an awesome Alpha 700 DSLR from sony!

It's got some very cool features, including:

-a 12.2 CMOS sensor with Bionz processor

-Shutter speeds up to 1/8000th of a second, and till ISO 6400 (!)

-HDMI output, and space for compactflash& mem.stick pro duo cards

So a friend and I started a new little weekly show on Stickam and I've been in the market for a webcam. I found a few on Cnet with a nice rating.

1) Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000

At $100 it is quite expensive if you ask me but once again, reviews say it puts out a very nice image.

2) Logitech QuickCam Communicate MP

This one also has a nice review and is half the price.

I would prefer staying around $50 for this purchase as I wont be using this every day.

I chose Logitech ...

Mark - love your vids, thank you so much.

I'm trying to decide between a Sony HVR-Z1U for $1749 and a Sony HDR-FX7 for $1,999 (both new).

Will be used for shooting professional indoor HD green screen video of standing or seated subjects (little to no movement). Will most likely get a shotgun mic to go with.

Any thoughts are welcome... Are these overkill for the intended use?

Thanks!

What do you think? I would be able to use it for my stop-motion, but I'd need to zoom in on the little set, and use a tripod. I'm fine with using a tripod, but I'd need to rearrange my lighting setup and overall organization of my small set.

Hey Mark!

Love your YouTube videos. I have been watching for a while since you were featured, and I've learned some cool stuff from ya, so I naturally I figured you would be the best person to ask in regards to a video camera purchase. You are the video guru after all!

Long story short, I've been suffering with a $90 web cam, and attempting to make YouTube videos. It just doesn't work for several reasons, including, no "on location" shots (aka boring), and, bad audio(no, ...
